Opis rada

This Project is a try to counter the tendency of disbelief in Architecture and its possibilities within the state of a continuous network of urbanization overwhelming our whole existence.

Although urbanization is considered to become something immaterial, the physical space of the city remains the only space where we can contribute to political movements. As things take place in the real space, architecture of course is not able to control the whole machinery of the city but it is able to give an image to its condition and to understand and criticize it.

Architectural form becomes less and less important and it can not represent the human order anymore but at the same time architectural form is always addressing to a spatial condition and therefore it always implies an idea of the political.

The project of an university building at the port of the Bosphorus in Istanbul is acting with the tools and methods of architecture. By using the strategies of architecture a push towards a critical understanding of our situation is made. The striking topography of the former industrial shipyard (Haliç Tersanesi) is superimposed by an architectural gesture framing a new spatial condition on the site. Alike a monastery implemented in the very heart of the city the spaces of living and cognitive production are overlapping. The reform is happening inside the block.
